As a teenager, he learned how to play the guitar and started to write music. While he also learned to sing opera briefly, he quickly decided that he would like to be a singer/songwriter. WebJohn Ondrasik had signed with EMI Records in 1995 and adopted Five for Fighting as his "band name" despite being a solo act. EMI executives believed that the male singer songwriter persona was no longer viable, so Ondrasik selected Five for Fighting as a stage name. Lyrics and Composition.
